Planning for Chaos: Successfully Navigating a Shipping Crisis

The West Coast ports crisis may be a memory now, but future global events impacting shipping are inevitable. At GTM, we were proud to join a strong, integrated team to address this crisis. Working together, we created unique solutions that kept our customers’ factories open and their businesses running. As the logistics arm of the Deshler Group family of companies, we developed a rapid, multi-step response to clogged harbors and empty shelves. We drew upon our years of trucking, shipping, and customs clearance expertise to quickly extricate cargo for our customers. Cargo that represented jobs, profits and commercial survival for many. In partnership with GS3 Global, Feblo International and AMI, several of our Deshler affiliates, we saved the day for many of our customers. Building International Partnerships at EGLN 2015

GTM executives are just back from Bangkok and are fondly recalling a wonderful week spent with our colleagues at the inaugural Elite Global Logistics Network (EGLN) annual conference. Bangkok Skyline Mark Brodie, GTM’s Managing Member and Co-Owner, Mike Unsworth, Senior Director of International Branch Operations, and Joe Field, Senior Director of Operations, North America, represented GTM at EGLN. This annual conference is an essential one for GTM. In just one week in Thailand, we were able to directly engage with more than 150 delegates from 90 global freight forwarders. Membership is by invitation only and includes high-quality freight forwarders whose services are proven, efficient and dependable. By the close of 2016, EGLN expects more than 250 members from 100 countries. With 12,000 staff and projected annual revenues of $4 billion, EGLN is poised to make a lasting mark on the logistics industry. The EGLN Conference, held at Bangkok’s five-star Landmark Hotel, consisted of welcoming and social events, discussions, and one-on-one meetings. These meetings are the heart of the conference, allowing us to hold frank, in-person discussions with our international partners. This week, GTM executives are attending the Elite Global Logistics Network (EGLN) First Inaugural Annual Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. We will be meeting with leadership from many of our valued international partners. For GTM, 2015 has been a year of substantial growth. We’ve added new capabilities for our customers, including our local pick-up and delivery (PU&D) service. We also successfully navigated the challenges of the West Coast ports crisis. We developed winning solutions for our customers and further strengthened our reputation for always offering quick thinking and a creative approach. EGLN is a new network of elite-level logistics companies that offer superior services to their customers. GTM Picks Up Local Freight and New Faces

At GTM, we’ve begun a rapid expansion of our local pick-up and delivery (PU&D) service. Our full-service offerings are now comprehensive and available to virtually any customer. Our partners are international and our shipments reach across the globe, but we are particularly proud to call the Detroit area home. Serving our area, no matter the size or type of shipment, has long been one of our primary goals. Through our new PU&D service, we offer our customers rapid, carefully managed, high-value transport of goods, both inbound and outbound. Heading up our PU&D expansion is GTM sales manager Gordon O’Leary. Mr. O’Leary brings decades of successful trucking expansion experience with him to GTM. Since 1984, he has more than tripled growth for multiple companies and has established an unrivaled reputation in his industry for efficiency, creativity and honesty.
